Meeting the needs of EVERY child

In Scotland, 25% of children between the ages of 1 and 18 have speech, language and communication needs (SLCN).

In areas of social disadvantage, this number can rise to 50%.

The most important factor in reaching the expected levels in English and Maths at age 11 was children’s language skills at age five; more important than poverty or parental education. (Save the Children (2016) The Lost Boys)

“Poor understanding of and insufficient resources for SLCN mean too many children receive inadequate, ineffective and inequitable support, impacting on their educational outcomes, their employability and their mental health” (Bercow, 2018)

It is my personal and professional mission to ensure that every child has access to the best possible language and learning supports and interventions to ensure they THRIVE.

“The best predictors of educational success are measures of language, communication and literacy” (Snowling, 2011).

Testimonals

Angela Veysey (BSC, PGCE, QTD, NatSEN, MEd)
“Morven trained our teaching assistants to deliver interventions across the school. She wrote programmes, set targets and then monitored the provision by observing the TAs, providing supportive feedback and coaching them. We knew the interventions were successful as we could measure enhanced academic progress and see more confident children. Morven has such a winning approach and works so well with school staff.
In my experience Morven has excellent people skills, all the children loved working with her, she built a good rapport with parents, many of whom initially were a bit wary and not fully supportive. She delivered staff meetings regularly to teachers and had an excellent working relationship with the many TAs she worked with. She is very precise and clear in everything she does and put in many extra hours to make sure resources were ready, reports written promptly and staff were clear on what was required.
She was very clear on what was needed and worked closely with me, understanding when resources were scarce and working to deliver the best possible provision with what was available. I would not hesitate to recommend her, she was professional at all times and always worked to ensure the best provision for the children she worked with. Her impact was clear and measurable".
